This is where I get to show off a bit…
Room Boxes 1/12" scale |
Many years ago I bought a few double windowed room boxes from Crafters Market, and they lay in my cupboard gathering dust. Wasn't sure what to do with them as they had perspex that can slide up on both sides. Tonight I had a brainwave (happens once a year or so) and printed a picture. It looks so real!!!! I can change it any time just by sliding the perspex out and replacing the picture.
I put some of my own furniture in and a pic on the wall that I made out of cardboard. A working light up on the ceiling finishes it off. I love it!! What do you think? BTW you can always tell I MADE the clock many years ago because the pendulum door is upside down! LOL! what did I know in 2005? Ken and Leslie were my teachers and mentors- still miss them both! Lisa is now my teacher and I made the table at her workshop. Not perfect but I'm happy! |
I then Filled up the box even more

It never ceases to amaze me how much a person can get into a small box AND get away with it. With the use of mirrors and a slight play on dimensions, this box came together very nicely to my astonishment! This box is only 17cm x 20 cm x 7 cm and look how much I managed to get into it!

SANKEI paper kits.
1/144" scale SANKEI paper kit - pre colored laser cut kit assembled - it took about a week to complete this house working a few hours each day . The result is so satisfying. Much more detail. So much to admire. It is stonger than the wooden kits ~(believe it!) . The "Paper" is actually a type of compressed paper which is more like thin cardboard. Easy to assemble (with patience and care). The strength comes from layers that get glued together to make up the walls, chimneys etc. Each layer on this house is another color, supporting the layer in front of it. E.G. The facing wall has 5 layers - the brown woodwork, the cream walls, the green windows and doors, the white windows and the plastic windows. Inside the house there are a few supporting walls as well to give the house more strength.
Cape May Cottage.
Ok, so FiNally…. my 1/144" scale Cape May Cottage is finished - no laughing please! It was started many years ago and i found it in a little plastic suitcase looking sad Now it is complete, but not really… Some of the pieces have been lost, so I did the best I could with what I had. No furniture… nope will not go there right now! The reason is I'm really not mad about this little house. It's made of very brittle wood and compared to the"paper" kits from Sankei, it's a nightmare to work with. The paper kits are much more forgiving and fit together easier and much cleaner. So … a BIG vote of confidence for the kits I'm waiting for (I'm)patiently.

This 1/12" scale room box one is my favourites. ! My Man Cave oooh looks so cozy!
In this box, the man is relaxing with a book and a glass of ??? whisky? in his "man cave". All the books on the shelves were made by me. The guitar is one of my favorite collector's pieces - it looks just like the one I used to own and play more years ago than I care to remember. On the shelf above the window is a box containing two collector's dueling pistols, and if you look carefully behind the guitar reflected in the mirror is not only two swords, but s little revolver too. All very tiny!
the arm chair and footrest look so comfortably leather, but they are actually resin! Beautifully done.
There is a working light you can just see peeking out above his head and a clock on the shelf next to the duelling pistols. The books on the bookshelf at that last touch of character to the room box. No room box is complete without a plant and a pet.
The doll was also made and dressed by me. One of my old time favorite dolls. Has anyone noticed the parrots in the room boxes?

I chose a sunset in a bay window for this room box! I've decided this is the way to show off my special items, not only those made by me.
Now for the honesty! I truly cannot remember who made the chair, but I <think> it was me. There is no signature underneath, but then i didn't sign everything. One thing I do remember is that I bought an old tapestry handbag from a second hand shop with the idea of upholstering a miniature chair.
The items in the display cabinet are all very special to me and I'm happy I can share them with you now. I love birds! We have two parrots at home and before you ask, yes, we are gluttons for punishment! They are worse than 3 year olds, but we love them all the same. That is why i intend putting a bird in each room box i create from now on. I know, the first one doesn't have a bird, but it's waiting to be placed in later.
The elephant is just too cute for words - had it for years! The tiny spec in from of the elephant is actually a glass stork I bought for my daughter about 24 years ago and true to her word, she took great care of it. The stork lived in her dollhouse till she left home and gave it back to me. Thanks :)
The middle shelf has bottles - I love glass so I love bottles!!
The bottom shelf is more than special. If you look closely you'll see a little lady in a silk dress. I was taught by Frances Armstrong to make that doll and she is my pride and joy, and I remember Frances every time I look at her.
Who remembers the pop-up frog book? It was one of the first projects I made when i joined SAminis group in 2002. I challenged Micky in Scotland to make a working pop-up book in 144th scale. She sent it to me with a prize I won. Yes, it works! The frog's mouth opens and closes! A sweet friend went overseas and brought back the little glass frog on the table next to the book. The table was made by yours truly (under the supervision of Frances.).

The Nursery! My favorite babies! I'll write more on this next time - my hands hurt from too much typing.
